Yes our economy is in the dumps; temporarily. Friends and neighbors are losing their homes, jobs, marriages and the families that they have worked so hard for. People everywhere are so stressed they don’t know what to do. We have so many responsibilities and bills with little money to pay, while not having enough time for the much needed R & R. It seems there are no answers. Is there anything we can do? Is there any way we can help?
God our Creator has given us the ability to have compassion in a demanding world. We can help these people by saying “Hi!”and lending an ear, by extending a helping hand, and showing that we do care. This isn’t just about helping those in our circle of friends from work, school or church. It’s about kindness to the old lady in the grocery store, the child on the street, the neighbor in the midst of a terrible divorce, the homeless man looking for a bit of work and those with no health insurance. One kind word, a genuine smile, or the offer of assistance can turn a dismal day around, it may be the beginning of a new way with a glimmer of optimism that the future will be all right again. We have no idea of what chaos or loss they may be in. If we listen, we realize that we aren’t so bad off after all. Everywhere we go, people are in need of a kind word, a warm smile or a lending hand.
When we allow others to share their burdens they truly do divide and become more manageable. We can listen, we can offer words of comfort, and we can visit the lonely or lend a helping hand to those in need. Sometimes a solution is simple but often inconceivable when in the midst of turmoil and strife. Offer your help, it is so much better to have offered and not succeeded than to have just past them by and felt sorry later knowing we could have made a difference. Try walking in their shoes for just a moment and hear their story. Open your heart and notice the blessings that flow back to you; knowing you did the right thing. Be bold and show your kindness, it’s not out of style it is just out of use. When we show an act of kindness both the giver and the receiver are bless with good feelings but what is most interesting is that all those that watched, they too receive an equal share of good feelings too. Bless the world with you kindness today and it will come back to you. Offer yours today and make the world just a little bit better one soul at a time. Watch those around you and when someone makes eye contact, say "Hi! How are you?" Let the conversation flow, make the connection; be a friend, they too have their story.
